We left Madison RV Park & Golf Resort and headed to Raptor Ranch at Tyndall Air Force Base on Sunday, September 12, 2021.(The campground sits just outside of the base) We went live on Facebook when we left Madison and oh boy we had a funny incident happen during the live.
Check it out for a good laugh!!!!!
Now that you have had a good laugh on with the rest of the story...
The base is located on the Gulf of Mexico, in the Florida panhandle, 12 miles east of Panama City on Highway 98 or locally known as Tyndall Parkway. The Campround sits on the Andrew Bay.
There is a Commissary (closed on Monday) and an Exchange on the base.
The Raptor Ranch Fam Camp is open to: Active Duty, National Guard, Reservists, Retired Military, 0-100% DAV, Purple Heart Recipients, Former POW, Veteran Caregivers, DoD Civilians, Sponsored Guests (only Apr 1 - Nov 1) There are 100 spaces and 3 cabins.
We stayed in spot #40 which is a cement pull through space. The spaces have a small covered picnic tables. The tables could use some work. Our table came in handy for teaching our Virtual Fitness Classes during the one short time period that we didn't have rain.
Tyndall Air Force Base was in the eye of Hurricane Michael in 2018, and almost every structure was damaged. It's quite sad to see that certain areas are still severly suffering economically from the hurrican and just a few blocks away the economy seems to have recovered.
The campground was closed for a while due to the hurricane destruction.
There are many long-term and active military residents at the campground.
The office and bathhouse/rec center/laundry room were rebuilt after the hurricane.
We took a trip into Panama City Beach and enjoyed a walk around Pier Park. If you want retail therapy you can definitely find it at Pier Park. It's a great place to walk and enjoy a beach view.
We enjoyed a yummy lunch at the base of the pier at Hooked Pier & Bar
There is a $4 charge to walk the Pier
We stayed at the campground for 4 days and at some point during the day(s) it would rain. The community room was good for getting out of the RV and out of the rain. It was perfect for hosting our online virtual fitness class. As you can see from the pictures below there are several options for having fun or just relaxing in the community room.
Raptor Ranch Fam Camp was a good place for us to slow our pace a bit, get some rest and take care of business tasks.
After 4 days stay it's on to the next stop!
