We departed Vidalia, Louisiana on Monday September 27 th for a 174 mile ride to Barksdale Air Force Base Fam Camp in Bossier City Louisiana.
We made a mistake by going to the front gate which made for a long drive to the campground.
When we arrived at the Fam Camp the lady checking us in was very surprised that they allowed us to enter the front gate. If you travel to Barksdale AFB Fam Camp do NOT go to the front gate enter the RV Gate (Commercial Gate) to the Famcamp it is located off I-20 at Exit 23. From the East, turn left onto Industrial Drive and stay in the left lane, this lane becomes a turn lane which you will turn left at the Mobile Gas station.
TIP: Visit campground websites for arrival instructions. Don't rely on the confirmation email for complete instructions. (We learned our lesson)
The campground has two sides. Both sides are surounded by trees.
The old side has a playground, volleyball net, picnic area, community room and laundry facility. The check in office is also located on the old side. They have beverages and snacks for sale in the office.
We stayed in the new section where all spots are full hookup pull through sites with cement slabs and picnic tables. The new section has its own shower house and laundry facility.
This was a short stay as we arrived late afternoon and left early the next morning. We utilized our stay to do some extra cleaning inside of Big Baby and get our laundry done.
We did catch a few planes flying over the park.
We plan to return and stay for a few days so we can explore the area and get some delicious cajun cuisine
